Dana is proud to be featured in the new exhibition at the Healdsburg Museum & Historical Society. The Exhibition will be open Wed-Sun, 11-4 pm and runs from Jan 24- May 5, 2019.
Every year I like to paint along the Russian River after Labor Day weekend when the kids are back to school and it’s peaceful and quiet, the air soft and warm, the river cold. It’s a tradition that is restorative and productive. Since I’m preparing for another Open Studio with ArtTrails this October 13,14 and 20, 21, it’s a good time to reflect on the past year.I have recently spent time painting plein air in Carmel, the Dry Creek Valley, and Summer Home Park on the Russian River.I donated an afternoon of painting with me to KRCB and will be hosting that next weekend. Clutch has licensed more of my images for beautiful scarves. We have a new look in the tasting room/gallery, please drop by if you haven’t already.I’m excited to be helping plan a new art exhibit, A Sense Of Place, at the Healdsburg Museum next January where historical paintings will be juxtaposed with contemporary paintings. Also, the prestigious Paul Mahler Gallery will be showing one of my nudes during ArtTrails .
I always need to balance putting my art out to the public with the alone time in the studio and field. When I close my studio door it’s my time to focus, to find the convergence between realism and abstraction, and to settle into my deep love for art in my life. I hope some of that resonates with you. Hope to see you at my Open Studio in October.

Continuing to Love and Paint Life
After spending months in the studio working on commissions, I loved getting out into the fresh air, sometimes actually wind!, to paint plein air in Mendocino and the High Sierra. When painting out doors, on location, I am forced to emphasize and concentrate on the essence of what first attracted me to the place while at the same time try to balance the nuances of color and delicacy, wildness and coarseness. These qualities and contradictions I love because they reflect my life and connection to nature.
Thank you for your continued support and interest in my work. Please take the time to check out my new website, it’s mobile friendly now too!! https://danahawley.com
I just wanted to drop you all a quick note in case you hadn’t heard that I have taken a 1 year sabbatical from Sonoma County Art Trails for 2015. I will not be participating this year in any of the events, but I will be back fresh for 2016.
My studio is always open, and if you are coming from out of town you are more than welcome to call me at 707-494-5332 and arrange a good time to stop by.
