Figurative Series and 2020 Update

With so much unrest and turmoil going on, it’s been a difficult beginning to 2020. I hope you are staying healthy, safe, and supportive of others. I take refuge in my studio.
I’ve been working on a new series of figurative pieces based on some work I did for thirteen years with some wonderful artist friends. We met every Thursday Night and drew from a model. The fast poses were great for eye hand coordination, like the pencil was a continuation of my nervous system. Since only water-soluble mediums were allowed, I painted watercolors on small pieces of thick water color paper.
Now I have enlarged these small delicate watercolors into large multi layers thickly painted oil on wood panel paintings. I tried to keep the essence of the quick sketch, but give them more heft and presence. Each one, both the male and female forms, reminds me of feelings and emotions I had back then. Currently the pieces are showing in the Hawley Tasting Room Gallery and are available for private showings due to Covid-19 restrictions. Please contact me or Schedule a Visit on my website.
I continue to paint vineyards that I know so well living right in the middle of them. Each season brings a new palette of colors and ideas. The vineyard paintings will, once again, be hanging in the Hawley Tasting Room Gallery after September 1st.
Even though Artrails Open Studios event has been canceled this year, I invite you to come visit my studio. Call or text or email to make an appointment, where a mask and a smile and I will too.
Warmly,
Dana Hawley
